Many players who sign up find it difficult and in this guide we will explain some essential steps to start the journey in the best way and help you face an adventure in OSRS.
Upon first access, you will find yourself on the tutorial island. Here you will find out how to use the game's Free-to-play (F2P) skills. In addition to this, you will also discover the other features of your account such as subscriptions, banking, list of friends and all social features in addition to the main currency of the game called RuneScape gold and how to buy it.
On the tutorial island, it is important to follow every single aspect step by step to learn the basics. Once you finish the tutorial, you won't be able to go back unless you want to create a new account.
In the final part of the tutorial island, you will meet your magic instructor who will teach you a basic spell to hit a chicken. Once the spell is used, this will ask you if you are ready to be transported to the mainland and start the adventure by offering you the possibility to switch to the Ironman Mode account.
These accounts remove the ability to trade with other players in exchange for a single player oriented experience. There are some iterations of Ironman accounts that can change the OSRS experience.
For our beginner's guide, we will assume that you have decided to start with a regular OSRS account.
Once you exit the tutorial area, you will be transported to the Lumbridge of Gielinor castle (the name of the world of OSRS). From here on, you may not be sure what to do because OSRS allows you to do whatever you want. So to get the best start, you will need to consider the restrictions given to F2P players.
If you have successfully completed the tutorial island, you will have a large selection of OSRS items in your inventory that will not be particularly useful at first glance and, for this reason, we recommend that you first take advantage of the bank to get rid of these objects.
The bank is located at the top of Lumbridge Castle. You will only have to go up both stairs and right click to select the climb option. Click on the bank in the center of the top floor and deposit some items. If you have a large collection of items, it is much faster to select the deposit button all on the bottom right, then withdraw everything you want.
If you want to quickly gain experience in OSRS, the best skills to train at the beginning are combat (ranged and melee) and wood cutting.
For combat you will have to use all the armor and weapons starting from your melee ability with a sword. The selection of the fighting style will allow you to choose which fighting skills to train but we advise you to have more strength in combat than defense.
You can decide between 5 strength levels, then 5 attack levels and vice versa. You will also see a wide range of enemies to train your skills on. These enemies are mainly found in the immediate vicinity of Lumbridge Castle. Here you will find mice, men and women while goblins and cows across the bridge. Training in this order is the best choice while remaining cautious not to die along the way.
However, don't despair if you lose your life as you can start over at Lumbridge. By dying in OSRS, you can usually gain access to your items in an hour. You will also be able to keep some of your 3 most expensive items on your death alongside non-negotiable items (such as mission items).
With the 15-20 strength sign, you can decide to train in the Lumbridge swamp south of the castle. Here you will encounter stronger enemies like frogs and rats. Training to improve your ranged combat can prove difficult but if you persist, you can get the chance to level up and buy OSRS gold for stronger items. For ranged combat, you will only start with 25 arrows, however you can get training arrows and a training bow from a ranged combat tutor. You will find the tutor at the north entrance of Lumbridge Castle. When you run out of arrows, you can meet him for other quests. Ranged combat in OSRS can also be helpful in improving your defense.
As a new player, we hope these first steps will prove important to make your journey rewarding.
