Path of Exile 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular action role-playing game, is set to introduce a host of captivating gameplay differences that will revolutionize the combat experience. One significant addition is the introduction of a dodge roll, available to all character classes. Unlike its predecessor, this dodge roll will have "no cooldown or limitations," allowing players to evade enemy melee strikes and projectiles by timing their dodges effectively. While the dodge roll doesn't grant invulnerability within an area of damage, it presents an invaluable tool for survival.
Another notable enhancement is the inclusion of weapon switching, an evolved mechanic from the first installment. In Path of Exile 2, players can assign specific skills to either of their equipped weapons, providing greater flexibility and strategic choices. Furthermore, passive skill points can now be allocated to each weapon slot individually, enabling players to specialize in certain types of abilities. For instance, one can focus on ice skills with the first slot and benefit lightning spells with the other, fostering the development of diverse and unique character builds.
Path of Exile 2 introduces a new loot drop called "uncut gems." These gems allow players to choose any skill in the game and receive a gem corresponding to that skill, tailored to their current in-game level. Additionally, support gems can now be directly applied to the chosen skill gems, eliminating the need to find or craft armor with linked slots to accommodate the gems.
These changes to skill gems and support gems necessitate adjustments in crafting items. Several crafting items from the previous game will be modified or removed to align with the new system. The developers aim to restore the emphasis on discovering powerful items through drops, as opposed to relying heavily on crafting. Jonathan Rogers, a member of the Path of Exile 2 team, describes the excessive reliance on crafting in the previous game as "a bit of a travesty."
The class system in Path of Exile 2 showcases a roster of six new classes alongside the classes from the original game. Each new class corresponds to one of the primary attributes—Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence—and offers unique playstyles. These new classes will start at the same locations on the passive skill tree as their counterparts from the previous game but will possess their own Ascendancies (endgame specializations) and quest rewards. While it hasn't been confirmed yet, it is likely that the neutral Scion class will make a return as well.
Path of Exile 2 introduces a structured league system, similar to other popular action role-playing games like Diablo. The leagues in Path of Exile 2 will operate on a 13-week cycle, offering players the opportunity to create new seasonal characters from scratch. Seasonal leagues feature unique mechanics that add an extra layer of excitement to the gameplay experience. Past leagues have introduced innovative features such as mini skill trees on weapons and roguelike-style side dungeons. Additionally, leagues often bring balance changes, class updates, and new skill gems, encouraging players to experiment with fresh builds.
While Path of Exile 2 retains its free-to-play model, the game will offer cosmetic microtransactions and a few gameplay conveniences. In the first game, only gameplay-relevant microtransactions included stash tabs, character slots, and guild member slots. Stash tabs, available in standard and premium variations, grant players additional storage space across all characters. Premium tabs offer enhanced customization options, such as designated spots for different crafting items that contribute to Path of Exile's intricate economy.
The release of Path of Exile 2 will still take a long time to wait, but MMOexp has already provided players with POE 2 Currency, in addition to providing players with items such as Path of Exile orbs for players' current needs, players can eagerly anticipate embarking on new adventures in the world of Wraeclast.
